You should store your dress in a room where the temperature remains steady and humidity is not too high. It is best to avoid:- direct exposure to light- storing your dress in a plastic garment bag. This may cause yellowing. Wrap your dress in acid free tissue where possible- hanging your dress on a hanger (prevents distortion).
We suggest taking your dress to a professional dry cleaner. Dry cleaning helps preserve the fabric colors, keeps your dress wrinkle-free and is delicately handled to prevent any damaging of the detailed embroidery.
Our advice is to take your dress to a professional dry cleaner to help remove the stains on your dress.
Yellowing can often occur from the plastic bags used to store your dress. Plastics give off damaging fumes that may cause yellowing. Certain fabrics (such as silk and nylon) yellows more than other fabrics (polyester, rayon, acetate). The best way to protect your dress will be to store it in an acid-free environment. Wrapping your dress in acid-free tissue or unbuffered tissue (for non-synthetic fabrics) should help prevent yellowing.
Where possible, we recommend your garment be stored flat. An alternative would be to hang your dress in a plastic bag with the petticoat inside.
If your gown is not kept in a breatheable environment, humidity will increase and you may experience mildew and mold growth. Allowing your fabric to breathe is the best prevention for reducing moisture.
Oxidation will often occur, and you will not always be able to see it with the naked eye. Any substance spills that are not properly cleaned can cause oxidation (brown spots) over time, as dry-cleaning solvents do not remove all substances. Keep your dress in its original condition by treating oxidation stain as soon as they are found. If you are not sure of how to remove stains, take your dress to a professional dry cleaner.
